Preseason 2012
(Submitted by lboros)

Carpenter entered 2011 as one of the Cards’ best position-player prospects and nearly made the big-league team with a terrific spring camp. He followed that up with a solid year at Triple-A (.300/.417/.463), earning a brief callup to the majors. Yet he enters 2012 in a precarious situation, blocked above by David Freese and pushed from below by Zack Cox. A strong spring might earn Carpenter a spot on a Cardinal bench that’s very much in flux, while a weak one could seriously damage his career. He’s entering his age-26 season and can’t afford a setback.
